Did you know its PLASTIC FREE JULY? read more HERE
Farmers markets are great places to shop plastic free. You can buy loose fruit and vegetable without plastic and reduce waste at the same time. Have you ever tried to buy strawberries in a supermarket that aren't in a plastic box?
Not a problem at Farmers markets; buy seasonal fruit from Perry Court, Chegworth, Fiveways farm, Millets farm in paper containers. Buy your meat from Goodtrees farm at Blackheath and have it wrapped in wax paper. Most fish sellers only use paper including Gary Fresh fish and Well dressed crab.
If you want some more tips about how you can reduce your plastic consumption further at markets here is our TOP 5:
- Refuse new single use plastic bags from all stalls
- Bring your own bags for life or a ruck sack every week
- Bring sealable containers for meat / fish
- If products are displayed in plastic leave the plastic with the stall so that it can be used again
- If stalls do not have a paper / card or non plastic alternative have a chat to them at market, or ask why, there could be a good reason to do with food safety. Plus you can always drop them an email with your questions
To help encourage more reusable bags and recycling we have teamed up with a London recycled bag supplier KIND BAG to GIVE AWAY 2 fantastic food hampers in one of their great bags. You can enter the competition here on Facebook
