Winter is coming!
The clocks have gone back, it's time to think about warming stews and soups.
Game season is in full swing so why not grab some venison, duck or pheasant to put together with in season root veg and cook up a rich & nutritious one-pot meal.
If you are lucky enough to get out and about in the countryside in November there is no better feeling than cooking with an ingredient that you have foraged and brought home yourself. The BBC's Countryfile have a useful guide to foraging in November which will help you if you have not foraged before.
In season in November
Apples, beetroot, broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, celery, celeriac, cauliflower, carrots, chard, claytonia, fennel, herbs, Jerusalem Artichokes, kale, lettuce, leeks, marrows, pak choi, parsnips, pears, potatoes, peppers, purple sprouting broccoli, red, green & white cabbage, radishes, spinach, spring onions, turnips, Tuscan kale, garlic, squash and pumpkins.
New season game: Pheasant.

Blackheath Station Car Park Development Update.
We understand that there are some concerns about the future of the farmers market relating to the proposed development. Please be reassured that as managers of the farmers market we would not support any plans that did not guarantee the future of the farmers market in Blackheath. However given that proposals are in place to redevelop the car park it is important that we constructively support and engage with plans that seek to retain a farmers market on site, alternative plans may not offer the farmers market any future on site.
We have had further discussions with the developers and have been provided with plans for Sundays that show, in addition to the Market Square, the farmers market will be permitted to spill out in a linear fashion along the service road beside the platforms and the proposed buildings. This will enable the current stall footprint to be accommodated within the proposed development and space for all the current stalls.
In their proposal (https://blackheathstation.co.uk/opportunities/) the developers state:
“A key goal of the development is to maintain and enhance the weekly farmers’ market, ensuring that this popular community event can continue.”
and
“Our proposals include a new dedicated market square that will provide a new, permanent home for this popular community event. The design of the space has been informed by conversations with the Farmers’ Market to understand their existing and future needs – it will accommodate c. 35 stalls with room for expansion.”
The farmers market stall layout and servicing will obviously be different under these proposals but the proposed linear stall layout will ensure the Sunday farmers market is not curtailed or restricted. Building in a permanent space for the market will secure its long term future. A temporary location would still need to be secured for the construction period should planning permission be granted.
In addition there is proposed parking for some stalls and refrigerated vans will be given priority. Parking on site is not provided at most markets and currently many stalls prefer to park outside the car park on the street for free rather than to pay the high car parking prices in the car park on Sundays. Parking for all stalls on site is not required now or in the future, but having some parking will make servicing easier for those businesses that require it.
We will obviously continue to watch the plans and consultation closely as they develop and will keep you up to date as much as possible.
Notting Hill closed 30th November
Due to the Fox Primary School Winter Fair on Saturday 30th November, the market will be closed for one day only, so please stock up this Saturday. The market will be back as usual on Saturday 7th December. If you cannot survive without the fresh farmers market food for one week some of your favourite stalls can be found at our South Kensington market on Saturdays and at High Street Kensington on Sundays .
