The iconic Vietnamese bánh mì dates back to the late 19th century when South Vietnam was a French colony & baguettes were only reserved for the rich since wheat had to be imported. When Vietnam became independent, the baguette was available for all. Yippee! The Vietnamese altered the recipe to make it light & airy on the inside & golden thin crusted on the outside with yummy fillings at ridiculously low prices sold by aunties on the streets of Saigon.
For many years, siblings, Tammi & Tony could not find the same bánh mì recipes in London so when they became redundant in 2020, it was the perfect time to start a new delicious journey and join forces to create Lò Việt. After lots of trial and error they now offer you the authentic handmade bánh mì made with local produce and their own baked bread!
